Suite GUIDE

Keyboard shortcuts and accessible controls

A focused reference to the shortcuts available in each editor and the context in which they work.

On this page

Shortcuts follow the focused app

Click the editor or control you want to use before pressing a shortcut. A key may have a different meaning in text, on a canvas or during a presentation. Most editor shortcuts pause while you are typing in a normal input or while a dialog is open, so that typing does not unexpectedly change the document behind it.

Where Ctrl is listed below, the Suite handlers also accept Command on a Mac. Browser and operating-system shortcuts can still vary. Use the visible button if a key combination is intercepted by your browser.

Suite workspace

  • Ctrl+S: request a save for the open editable Suite file.
  • /: focus the workspace file search when no editable file is open and you are not typing in another field.
  • Escape: close a temporary Suite menu or dialog when no protected operation is running.
  • Tab and Shift+Tab: move through available controls. Dialogs keep keyboard focus inside until closed.
  • In the Apps chooser, use Up, Down, Home or End to move between app links, then Enter to open the selected link.

Docs and Sheets

Docs uses familiar text-editing commands for bold, italic, underline and recent text edits. Its explicit writing-area shortcuts include Ctrl+K for the link editor and Ctrl+Enter for a page break. Escape closes temporary writing tools.

Sheets has its own grid navigation. Arrow keys move cells, Shift+Arrow extends a range, Enter or F2 edits the selected cell and Tab moves right. While editing, Escape cancels the uncommitted edit. Delete or Backspace clears selected values when you are not editing text.

  • Sheets Ctrl+G: focus the cell or range address box.
  • Sheets Ctrl+D and Ctrl+R: fill down or right across the selection outside cell editing.
  • Sheets Ctrl+B and Ctrl+I: toggle bold or italic for selected cells.
  • Sheets Ctrl+Z: Undo. Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z: Redo.
  • Sheets Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+End: move to the first cell or the used area's final row and column.
  • Sheets Page Up and Page Down: move by 20 rows.

Slides editing and presentation

Outside text fields, Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z undo and redo slide changes. Ctrl+Alt+Up or Ctrl+Alt+Down moves the selected slide earlier or later.

While presenting, Right, Down, Space or Page Down advances; Left, Up or Page Up goes back. Home and End go to the first and last visible slides. B toggles blackout, P toggles presenter tools and Escape exits presentation. These keys apply to presentation mode rather than normal slide-text editing.

Studio design canvas

Select an unlocked object on the design canvas first. Ctrl+D duplicates, Ctrl+G groups and Ctrl+Shift+G ungroups. Ctrl+A selects unlocked objects. Arrow keys move the selection and Shift+Arrow moves it by 10 pixels. Delete or Backspace removes the selected object, and Escape deselects.

Ctrl+Z undoes; Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y redoes. Ctrl+K opens the Studio command palette when canvas shortcuts are available. Text fields keep normal typing behaviour and visible dialogs block canvas shortcuts. Arrange > Keyboard shortcuts provides the in-app reference. This list describes the design canvas, not every video-timeline control.

Tasks, PDF, Forms and Sign

In Tasks, outside typing fields, N adds a task and / focuses task search. Ctrl+Z undoes, while Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes an available task-history change. Escape closes the selected task details.

In PDF, outside text inputs and protected export or Drive dialogs, Ctrl+Z undoes and Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes. Delete or Backspace removes the selected annotation; Escape clears the selection or current draft tool.

Forms' tab bar and Sign's Prepare/Activity tabs support Left, Right, Home and End when those tabs have focus. These change the current panel, not the content itself. Use Tab to reach the next control and the visible action buttons to publish, send or confirm changes.
